80113 | Zelma Pickler Hall, 92, succumbed to her illness and passed away peacefully on Friday, January 6, 2017. She was born in New London, NC to the late John and Eldora Pickler and was one of seven children. She met the love of her life, Gil, while he was on leave from the Navy and they married in January 1946. They traveled to many places while in the Navy and made many friends and life-time memories. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gil, her parents and three siblings (Heath Pickler, Ann Almond, and Johnnie Thompson). Zelma leaves behind to cherish her memories her two sons, John (Susan) and Dale Hall, grandchildren, Scott Hall, and Mandy Hall, great grandchildren, Melany White, Nathan and Natalie Hall, two sisters, Kathleen Dutton and Janell (Tom) Hawkins, one brother, J.P. Pickler (Peggy), Gail Rappa (a special person in her life), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other dear friends. Some of the things Zelma enjoyed most were her church, Kendall's Baptist, and the many activities she was involved in there especially as flower chairman. She also enjoyed gardening, caring for friends and family in her community, traveling into her late 80's to visit family members in TX, FL, MA, etc., and beating all of us at Scrabble! Zelma moved to Pensacola, FL to live near her sons and other family members after her stroke in 2012. Zelma's family extends their sincere appreciation to the many caregivers who gave her the best care ever during her illness (Melany, Anita, April, LaJoyce and Pam) as well as the incredible medical caregivers from Covenant Care and Amedisys Home Health Services. We could not have done this without all of them! Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 12th at Kendall's Baptist Church. The family will receive friends in the fellowship building after the service. Active pallbearers will be Harry Dutton, Nathan Hall, Scott Hall, John Pickler, Blake Underwood and Greg Underwood. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Hawkins and J.P. Pickler. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Kendall's Baptist Church, the Wounded Warriors Project or the charity of your choice. | Pickler, Zelma Hall (I11865)
