      Robert (1881-1971)
      Julia (1882-1890)

Cornelia and her daughter were both "found" on May 15th. They died over the night due to gas.

Cornelia's husband, the President of Clark University was out of town. She had spent a pleasant evening with her two children, son Robert aged 10 and daughter Julia aged 8. Since daughter Julia had not been feeling well, it was decided she would sleep with her mother. Cornelia was last seen reading in the library of her home when her two servants retired about 10pm. The bedroom had four gas jets, one of which apparently had been left open by accident. Cornelia and her daughter were found in the morning when the servants became alarmed that they did not answer the bell.

A lengthy article describing the events leading up to the discovery, who was called, who came, etc. is printed in an article titled "Victims of Deadly Gas Mrs. G. Stanley Hall and Her Daughter Suffocated in Their Room" published Friday, May 16, 1890 in the Worcester Daily Spy.

Funeral services were in Worcester, then the bodies were taken to the train station for internment in Ashfield.

Theodore Fisher, brother of Cornelia, accompanied the bodies from Worcester to Ashfield on the train. Another service was held at the Congregational Church in Ashfield with Rev. D. O. Mears of Worcester and Rev. Pease of Ashfield officiating. [Monday, May 19, 1890 in both the Boston Herald and the Boston Journal]

May 17 - The funeral of Mrs Cordelia Hall, wife of President Hall of Clark University, and little daughter Julia, who were suffocated by gas Thursday night, was largely attended at the residence on Woodland street this morning, the most prominent people of this city taking part in the last tribute of respect. Rev. D. O. Mears D.D. officiated. The internment will be at Ashfield, Mass., tomorrow.
[published Sat., May 17, 1890, Boston Journal]

an extensive article listing dignitaries that attended the funeral and descriptions of the flowers and other offerings, as well as summary of the clergy's remarks can be found in an article titled "Funeral of Mother and Child the Last and Services at the Desolate Home on Woodland Street Floral Tributes to the Dead" in the Sunday, May 18, 1890 edition of the Worcester Daily Spy.
