Christopher was the son of William Rymes and Elizabeth Hutchings of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He was married in Chelsea, Mass. on 10 June 1857 to Almira Laighton Cheever, the daughter of Joseph Cheever. They had five children and resided in Somerville, Mass. Christopher was a machinist by trade, and also a state senator in the Massachusetts Legislature in 1876. Children:
