  • Notes
    • From FindaGrave:

John Haynes was born in England, about 1621. His parents were Elizabeth and Walter Haynes. The family name of his mother has not been found. John came to New England a year before the rest of his family, at the age of 16, in 1637. He traveled to America and lived in Watertown with his aunt, Elizabeth Read, the sister of his father. In 1638, his parents and the rest of the family arrived, and all went directly to the newly laid out town of Sudbury.

John married in Sudbury, on October 13, 1642, Dorothy Noyes, the daughter of Peter Noyes, whose name is so often linked with that of Walter Haynes in the history of Sudbury. Dorothy was also born in England, about 1627, and came to New England with her father in 1639. Dorothy and John had twelve children, all born in Sudbury. John was a freeman in 1646, and a representative to the General Court in 1668.

John wrote his will on March 29, 1697 and died soon after. His death is not recorded in Sudbury, although he must have died there. Information from graver Linne says that John signed his will on October 1, 1692 and died on April 8, 1697. This could mean that his will was originally made in 1692, with a codicil in 1697, just before his death. Dorothy's death, as a widow, is recorded in Sudbury, on April 8, 1715.
