79901 Samuel White was made a freeman 23 May 1666 and was chosen a deputy from Weymouth 1679.



He was called "Captain" for his distinction in capturing the deposed Governor Andros. When Andros made his escape, Samuel received a warrant from Governor Bradstreet and his council to pursue the deposed Governor Andros and bring him back -
which he did with a troop of 52 men. For that service he received 22 pounds, 8 pence.

Gen Chase had been married before, h. m., 1st, Nov. 28, 1759, Thankful Sherman, of Grafton, Mass., She had twin sons which died Aug., 1768, and she died Nov. 25, 1768, ae. 29; she left one daughter who married Nathaniel Hall (see Rehoboth Halls) whom Gen. Chase called "little Nat" because he was so large a man, weighing over 400; they were the parents of Dr. James Hall, of Windsor, who afterwards became celebrated by his connection with the Maryland colonization society, and by his planting an American colony on Cape Palmas, Aftrica.

"Gen. Chase filled a variety of office with honor to himself and advantage to the public" (See grave stone). He was b. in Sutton, Mass.; he was a nephew to Judith Chase, the wife of Dea. Thomas Hall of Cornish (See Medford Halls, part eighth). Gen. Chase and his two brother, Dudley and Samuel, were early settlers, and very large proprietors of Cornish; another brother, March Chase, was said to be the richest man in Sutton, his first wife was Beulah Coye, sister of Anna Coye, the wife of Dea. Chase, who died Aug. 18, 1794, aged 20 years and 6 months, a youth of distinguished mental talents, and acquirements, beloved and much lamented by numerous acquaintances and kindred; he was a gentleman of liberal eduaction; he graduated Dartmouth College 1793." By early 1660, Sarah m. Dea. Samuel Allen, Jr., s. of Samuel Allen & his 1st wife Ann (whose maiden name is unknown), claimed to have been b. Nov. 10, 1632 at Braintree, Mass. However, no proof of the latter date exists. Braintree was incorporated as a distinct town in 1640 and the town's first recorded vital record is June 1643. Samuel d. testate between June 29, 1703 and Dec. 21, 1705 (date of will-date of proof) at Bridgewater, Mass.

Having no children of their own, they adopted Peter Seas, son of Roland Sears, of Ashfield, who was Executor and heir to each/ "Thankful, wife to Peter Sears, was dismissed from Ch. Dennis, to Ch. Ashfield, Dec. 16, 179--" (between 1795 and 1799). Capt. Peter Sears liven in East Yarmouth, now Dennis, and after he retired from the sea, kept store there, dealing in rum, salt, sulphur, molasses, tea, sugar, etc., "and a little more rum". He also manufactured salt. Mar. 20, 1794, he was on com. to repair the meeting house, and to provide Mr. Stone's wood and hay. He appears to have removed to Ashfielld, Mass., and probably lived with his adopted son Peter until his death.
