Brothers and Sisters: Esther Greene; Oral, Richard, Alvin, and Alton __________ Winthrop-Lester "Tib" Alvin Tibbetts, Jr., passed away at Maine General Hospital on September 30, 2010 with his family at his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Tib was born in Winthrop on October 22, 1940, the youngest child of Lester A. and Dorothy Tibbetts. He attended the Winthrop School system and after finishing high school he went to work for Inmont Corp for 15 years until the plant closed. He then worked construction for a time on several job sites including the Winthrop Middle School. In 1977, Tib joined the Winthrop school system as a custodian, retiring 23 years later. Tib was an avid outdoorsman and throughout his life enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, golf, water-skiing, and a ?friendly? game of pool. When asked about hobbies, he would always reply "cutting wood." He loved NFL football and rarely missed a Patriots game. In his retirement years you could usually find him outdoors enjoying his "toys" which consisted of a backhoe, bulldozer, and his fleet of trucks. He always enjoyed traveling, going to camp at Moosehead, and spending his winters in Florida. He especially enjoyed all the get togethers with friends and family. He was predeceased by his parents, one sister, Esther Greene, brothers Oral, Richard, Alvin, and Alton, and grandson Jason Marston. Tib is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandee Stone; three daughters, Wanda Goodwin and husband David from Gray, Nancy Hebert-Hall and husband Bob from South China, and Toni Marston and husband Brian from Winthrop; grandsons Justin Hebert of Jacksonville FL, PFC Matthew Hebert of Camp Johnson, NC, and Andrew Hall of CT; granddaughter Jamie Marston Olsen and husband PFC James Olsen of Camp Lejeune NC; great granddaughter Oshiana Fay Haines/Olsen; one sister, Themla Luszczki and husband Lucien of Winthrop;two brothers, Lawrence and wife Sandra of Sidney and Earl and wife Sylvia of Hallowell; several nieces and nephews. She graduated from Cornell University in 1928 and attended her 70th reunion last year, being one of 13 attendees. She helped sponsor four Chinese students in the United States, and in order to provide for them, she began teaching at the age of 48. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Warren. All of the children she sponsored graduated from college. Mrs. Evans began the Kent senior citizen organization. She was active in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and was in charge of the Sunday school program for many years. She was a resident of Kent since 1939 and a curator of the Kent Art Association for many years. She traveled extensively throughout Europe, Ireland, Hawaii and the Southwest. Mrs. Evans is survived by a son, Robert L. Hall II of Kent; a daughter, Rosemary Demery of Denver; four grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. A former husband, Robert L. Hall Sr., is deceased. Bohannon --------------------------- Verna Frances Hopkins January 22, 1930 - January 13, 2012 Verna Frances (Dillard) Hopkins passed away on May 13, 2012 at home in Lebanon, Maine following a long illness. She was 82. Born in Bristol, VA on January 22, 1930, she was the daughter of Frank G. Dillard and Dorothy Blanche (Rowell) Dillard. Until the age of three, she lived in the Spartanburg and Cross Anchor, SC areas. She grew up in Swampscott, MA and graduated from Swampscott High School in 1947. Before her marriage, she worked for Hawkes Grinding Company and Sherman's Furniture, both in Swampscott. In 1951, Verna married Richard T. Hopkins, also of Swampscott. In 1953, they purchased property in Lebanon, Maine and moved to their place on the hill, Windcrest Farm, full-time in 1967 following the birth of their daughter, Ruth Ellen. Verna, known as the "Leather Lady," served as President of the Strafford County Craftsmen during the 1980s and exhibited her hand-carved leather work at area craft shows. She also served on the diaconate at the Milton Community Church and sang for a number of years in their choir. Verna was an election clerk for more than 30 years for the town of Lebanon for which she was honored in the dedication of the 2009 Lebanon Annual Report. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ellen (Jeffrey) Vaughn and grandchildren Anna, Abigail, Constance, and Alan of Farmington, NH; sisters Andrea K. Locke of Belton, SC and Grace G. Bohannon of Bufort, GA; first cousins Anna Katherine Gaudreau of Plano, TX, Mary Ann Stewart of Cross Anchor, SC, and Paul Langevin of Beverly Hills FL; sister-in-law Marguerite Hopkins of Plaistow, NH; several nephews and their families; dear friends Ruth Tremblay of Brookville, FL and Irene Cheney of Milton, NH; many wonderful and supportive neighbors; and her beloved Boston Terrier, Quincey, her last anniversary gift from her husband. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard T. Hopkins in 1999 after 47 years of marriage. Cremation services will be provided by Peaslee Funeral Home in Farmington, NH. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at her home on June 23, 2012 at 2pm.
