Halls of New England DNA

New England Hall DNA   DNA

The Hall surname DNA project is hosted by FamilyTreeDNA. The traditional focus of the project has been YDNA testing organized around discovering biological Hall families.

We currently have identified over 60 families. We create a new biological family when 2 or more members of the project - who are not closely related (eg, Father and son) - have matching YDNA haplotypes that show a close match at a minimum of a 37 marker test.

YDNA tests for this project have to be done by a male Hall as only males have a Y Chromosome and the Y chromosome passes from a father to his sons, more or less unchanged, from generation to generation.

These are the biological Hall families that seem to have New England roots that we have already identified with the name of whom the members identify as the earliest known ancestor in New England. (Corrections and Updates to this list appreciated...)

Family 002 - Richard Hall (c.1645-1729, Bradford, MA) (8 members)

Family 006 - Edward Hall (c. 1611-1670, Bristol Co., MA) (8 members)

Family 012 - John Hall (c. 1605-1665, RI) (13 members)

Family 015 - William Hall (c. 1613 - c. 1675, RI) (3 members)

Family 019 - Christopher Hall (1672-1711, Groton, MA) (29 members, not all US)

Family 020 - John Hall (c. 1611 - ?, Massachusetts) (3 members)

Family 024 - George Hall ( c. 1603 - 1669, Taunton, MA) (8 members)

Family 028 - Benjamin Hall (c. 1788, Maine - ?) (5 members)

Family 032 - John Hall (c. 1605 - ?, Connecticut) (5 members)

Family 047 - Brian Hall (c. 1727, Taunton, MA - ?) (4 members)

In addition, we have several additional possible New England Halls in several of the Haplogroup Groups that have not yet found a matching member.

If you (or a male relative) have been tested by DNA and you know which Family you are part of, please note your Family number in any posts as that will help other members know which family you are part of.

This list demonstrates that even with over 400 members in the project, there are still known Hall families of New England that have not yet been tested. Ideally, we would like to get a test done from a descendant of every known immigrant ancestor and each of their sons.
