Capt Oliver Wilson was famed as a sailing master, was commissioned Captain of the privateer brigantine 'Yankee' on 13 Jul 1812, his commission being signed by James Madison as President and James Monroe as Secretary of State. After the conclusion of the War of 1812, he and his family settled in the Province of Matanzas, Cuba where he was a successful merchant and plantation owner. He d. at San Juan Plantation, Camarica, Matanzas Province, 28 Feb 1839. His widow later removed to Spain, settling first at Madrid, then at Seville.
Oliver married Sarah Smith "Sally" Sabin on 1 Jun 1814 in Bristol, Bristol County, Rhode Island. Sarah (daughter of Capt.
