Benjamin was the son of Thomas Caswell and was a cousin of John, the husband of Mary's sister, Elizabeth. Mary and Benjamin had five children.

Benjamin's father, Thomas Caswell, was born 22 Feb. 1651 in Taunton, MA, and married in about 1674 Mary Jones who was born about 1656 and died before 1691. Thomas married 2nd on 2 Dec. 1691 in Taunton Mary Ramsden/Remsdell. A Mayflower descendant article suggests that Mary Jones was the mother of Thomas's first five children and that Mary Ramsden/Ramsdell was the mother of the other ten. Thomas died in 1725 in Middleborough, MA.

Thomas's siblings were Peter, Mary, John, and Sarah. All were born in Taunton. Peter's wife's name was Hannah. Mary married Israel Thrasher. John married Elizabeth Hall. Sarah married William Hoskins.
