Asahel served in the War of 1812 as a Corporal in Capt. Martin Tubbs's Company of the county militia from 20 Dec 1813 to 3 Feb 1814.

Asahel donated the land for Burnham Hollow Cemetery. He built a saw mill in the south part of the town. This was the third saw mill in Arkwright. He and his sons cleared a large portion of the land of the forests to make fine meadows and pastures and tillable lands. In 1850 he sold his old home to his son Asahel and bought another farm near Arkwright Center with his son, Eaton.

About 1858 still strong and well he had the desire to make a new home in the town of Greenfield, PA near where he had three daughters living. He built a cozy log home, took his wife there, built a saw mill to saw the timber that was growing on his land and other land. Only a few years was he able to enjoy his new possession, as he took pneumonia that weakened his strong body and in a few days his strength was gone. His wife returned to the home of Eaton where she lived until she died. Both are buried at the Burnham Cemetery, Arkwright, NY.

The Holy Family Bible Published by John E. Potter & Co. No. 617 Sansom St. Philadelphia, PA was bought by Lucy Burnham for $10.25 on 10 Oct 1867. The Family Bible was at one time in the possession of Mrs. Carrie Ball, Rt. 2, Cassadage, NY. This information is in the NSDAR Library in the file for Augustus Burnham that served in the Revolution.
