    DEATH OF J. W. ADAMS.

Por cotozens were greatly shocked last Tuesday afternoon to hear of the sudden death of J. W. Adams. He was at work painting the inside of Mr. Geo. Ingram's residence, (the former Hess place) when he felt ill, and went out and sat down on the edge of the porch. He has often had such sick spells and said he would be over it in a few minutes. Mr. Ingram told him he looked like a very sick man. He complained of nausea at the stomach and took some soda and water, and then some ginger which produced vomiting.

He insisted that he would be all right in a few minutes, but Mr. Ingram thought he looked so very ill that he sent for Dr. E. P. Cook and Mr. Adams' daughter. They both arrived soon and Mr. Adams was assisted to a couch, when he died, in fifteen minyes from the time of the attack, probably from apoplexy.

The deceased was born Aug. 23, 1832, and was married to Josephine Merrill in 1858. They moved from Lewiston, Me., to Vermillion in this county in 1863, and threee years later to Mendota, where he has since resided except for a short time at Wichiita, Kan.  He was a member of the Free Will Baptist church of this city as long as it existed, and he then united with the Baptist church, and was a devout Christian, always taking an actiive interest in the work of the church.

Mr. Adams' occupation was a painter and house decorator, and was very skilleful in this line of work. He was a man of integrity, and in every way way a most exemplary citizen. His many friends were greatly grieve to hear of his sudden death and have deepest symnpathy for his surviving child, Miss Clara, who is doubly bereavedm her mother dying about a year ago.

Two other children were born, Frank, who died in infancy and Willis, who was drowned in a lake in the east, while visitiing there. His only other near relative surviving is a sister, Mrs. J. H. Deering, of Boston, Mass. Mr. Adams was a member of the Masonic and Woodman fraternities, of which he carried $2000 insurance in the latter.

The funeral services will be held at the Baptist church, today, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Ballentine.

Joseph married Josephine Hall Merrill on 24 Oct 1858 in Lewiston, Androscoggin County, Maine. Josephine was born on 18 Mar 1836 in Lisbon, Androscoggin County, Maine; died on 26 Apr 1899 in Mendota, La Salle County, Illinois; was buried on 1 May 1899 in Mendota, La Salle County, Illinois.
