    Edward was a proprietor in the Town of Wrentham, MA in 1734 and 1742. He was a Sergeant, Ensign and Lieutenant, in the Colonial Service.

    He removed to Uxbridge in 1749 and bought 200 acres for 2000 pounds.

    Edward Hall and Hannah Fisher were married by Mr. Henry Messinger.

    (Research):A correction to Edward and Hannah's marriage year was discovered in the Appendix of the "Halls of New England" written by Rev. David B. Hall. The year is 1722 as opposed to 1721. It further states that they were early settlers of Franklin,
    MA.

    Mr. Hall came to Croydon, NH, before 1774, with a family of ten children and his niece, Elizabeth Hall, he lived near his father's farm, and it is said kept a tavern; he was a lieutenant in the Colonial Service, commissioned by the crown, and was a royalist from principle, and was highly esteemed; he was a Selectman in 1784, '85, and '86, also constable, collector, and moderator. Children were all born in Uxbridge, MA and four sons served in the Continental Army.

    LIEUT. EDWARD HALL came to town (Croydon, NH) during the Revolution, bringing with him seven sons-Ezekiel, Abijah, James, Edward, John, Darius and Ezra-and settled on the flat, south of the farm of J. Nutting. From this family and Rev. Samuel Read Hall have descended the Halls. The family were shrewd, and fond of amusements.

    and his widow also applied there 25 Jan 1837 aged 78, widow's sister Matilda Whipple was aged 75 in 1837 a resident of Croydon, NH.

    Daniel Read Hall's residence was at Croydon Flats. He was town clerk of Croydon for 10 years, selectman in 1855, representative in 1862 and 1863, and Justice of the Peace for many years. He had taken much interest in the state militia and was
    Brigade Inspector. He was a Director for the First National Back of Newport and held the office of Captain and is generally called Capt. Hall.



    Horace Powers (H.P.) Hall was born in Croydon, Sullivan County, New Hampshire, on August 5, 1827. He pursued his early education in the common schools and spent two years at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. Hall later received a B.A. degree
    from Amhurst College in Massachusetts (1855) and an M.A. degree from DePaul University in Indiana. Hall's teaching career began when he moved to Illinois in 1856. There he met Ellen M. Herrick, a native of Cheshire County, New Hampshire; they
    married and had five children.



    In 1864, at the time of the Civil War, Hall placed aside his professional and personal considerations and enlisted as a member of Company I, First Indiana Heavy Artillery, located in Indianapolis. Shortly after his discharge, Hall and his
    family settled in Sycamore, Illinois, where he succeeded Andrew T. Blanchard as city superintendent of schools. Hall, elected county superintendent of schools in 1869, remained in that office until 1877.



    During his work as superintendent of the DeKalb County schools, Hall published an educational monthly journal pertaining to the schools of the county and wrote a pamphlet entitled, suggestions to Teachers. Under his guidance, the schools made
    substantial progress in several educational enterprises. In 1877, Hall retired from office and embarked in the grocery and insurance business.

    James Hall Jr. resided in Croydon, NH from 1813 to 1837, when he removed to Newport, NH and puchased the celebrated Stannard farm where he live to the end of his life. He was a wealthy and highly esteemed farmer; was of the strictest and most
    conscientious integrity, and a consistent christian; he held offices of honor and trust, many times; was a selectman of Croydon, and also of Newport; and represented Newport in 1845 and 46.
