    The eldest son of RICHARD & JUDITH RAYMOND, he came to New London and was a founder there in 1658. He married Elizabeth Smith on Dec. 10, 1659 and received a land grant in 1662. Joshua Raymond along with two other men paid the Sachem, Uncas, 15 pounds and was granted 200 acres each. He built a homestead on the road between New London & Norwich that was passed on to his son, Joshua Jr. In 1672, he was Cornet for the New London Troopers commanded by Capt. Palmer in preparation for the War with the Dutch. In 1675 he was appointed Commissary of the force of 70 men including Pequot and Mohecan Indian allies. His death may have been as a result of wounds he received during the Great Swamp Fight of the Narragansett War on Dec. 19, 1676. The widow, Elizabeth, married George Dennis on Jan. 26, 1681.
