Charles Forbes Merrifield, was the fourth son of Preston and Clarissa Merrifield. He was the editor of the Vermont Journal for a few years and Windsor Town Clerk at the time of his death. He married Adelaide Campbell December 9, 1847 and she survived him.

The small stone in the photo inscribed with "Our Baby" marks the grave of their infant son.
