    Dr. John Hale came to Hollis as a physician in 1755 at the age of 24. He was a very ambitious young man and besides becoming a General Surgeon for the New Hampshire First Regiment during the Revolutionary War, he served earlier as doctor for the troops of Peter Powers during the French and Indian War in 1757.

    He married Elizabeth Hall about 1755.

    He served as Selectman and was a Representative to the General Court in the 1760's. He served as a Hollis physician until his death in 1791. He resided at 71 Pepperell Road in a two story house with a well which has since been pulled down. The site of the first house is marked by a lilac bush. His son Dr. William Hale also lived in this house.

    Col. John Hale settled in Hollis, N. H., as a physicianm at about the age of 24 years; he was assistant surgeon in the French war, 1755, in Col. Joseph Blanchard's reg.; he was lieut. col., 1767, of the 5th N. H. militia, and col. of the same in 1775; he represented Hollis and Dunstable in General Court from 1762 to 1768 and also in the Provincial Congress in 1775, and was member of the State Council in 1776, and was surgeon of the 1st N. H. reg. from 1776 to 1780; he continued the practice of his profession in Hollis during his life. ... [His] sons were soldiers on the Rev. war.

    David Hale early in his marriage went to Groton NH but returned to Hollis sometime in the early 1790's. He and Betsey had 12 children listed in the Hale family register in the possession of the Hollis Historical Society. David apparently was a Doctor but did not practice like his brother William.

    David lived on 2A sh Street in Hollis. He later lived with his sister Rebecca Ames at 4 Maple Knoll Road (corner of Broad and Maple Knoll).

    David Hale served in the Revolutionary War with Capt. Daniel Emerson on the expedition to RI in 1778.
