After receiving 20 pounds in his father's will in 1614, he sold all his possessions and moved to Leiden, Holland where he joined the Separatist Church. The name of Edward Fuller's wife is unknown. Together they had two sons: Mathew (1605) and Samuel (1608). In 1620 he made the decision to take his wife and son Samuel aboard the Mayflower. He and his wife died soon after they arrived in Plymouth. His son Samuel grew to have nine children, and it is from him that the family line descends.

Article Was Matthew Fuller of Plymouth Colony a Son of Pilgrim Edward Fuller?, by Bruce MacGunnigle of 1986 by The American Genealogist, p 194, (Mayflower Society has accepted him as the son).

Buell Burdett Bassette, One Bassett Family in America, p. 310 lists Edward's father is Robert Fuller, gson of John Fuller. The Fuller's were jurymen in the Parish of Redenhall in County Norfolk.
Bassette, p. 314, dates Matthew's birth as 1603 because he was age 39 on 9-7-1642 when made a freeman and cites Plymouth Colony records v2, p62

According to FINDaGRAVE contributor Jeanne Garrett, all his children were:
    Mary Fuller, born Bet. 1625-1630
    Samuel Fuller, Lt.
    Elizabeth Fuller, born 1632
    Anne Fuller, born 1640
John Fuller, Dr., born Aft. 1640

    *****************************************

Matthew Fuller did not accompany his parents and brother on the Mayflower. He was likely older than his younger brother Samuel (b. about 1608) and may have stayed in England (with other children?) to continue his education. He is first mentioned in the New England Records in a deed October 1640 and it's believed that 1640 is the year of his arrival and that of his family. He was granted 10 acres in Plymouth in April, 1642, the same year he was a juryman and propounded Freeman. However, he did not take the Freeman's oath until 7 June 1653. He was appointed sergeant in the militia in 1643; Miles Standish was Captain. He removed to Barnstable from Plymouth by 1652, possibly as early as 1650.

A physician, he was named lieutenant of the military company of Barnstable at the General Court in Plymouth 5 Oct. 1652 and, in 1653, he represented Barnstable in the General Court. On 2 Oct. 1658 he was elected one of the Council of War and, in 1671, named it's chairman and one of the magistrates of the Colony. In the same year he was named lieutenant of the forces to be sent against the Saconet Indians. He was appointed surgeon of the forces of Plymouth colony 17 Dec. 1673; named Captain of the Plymouth forces in 1675 during King Philip's War.

He was the first regular physician at Barnstable and resided in it's northwest corner, in an area called Scorton Neck. He also owned land in Middleboro and Falmouth, grandted for services provided to the Colony. His will was dated 25 July 1678 and was proved 30 Oct. 1678. His estate was appraised on 22 Aug. 1676 at 1,667 pounds, 4, 6, a very large amount for the times. " Among items is the following: " Pearls, precious stones and diamonds, at a guess, 200 pounds." (From "Genealogy of Some of the Desc. of Capt. Matthew Fuller, " William Hyslop Fuller, 1914, pg. 12).

Although I have read of the possibility that Matthew married a second time to a wife named Hannah who bore him daughter Anne, Matthew's will clearly names his wife as Frances, as well as names daughter Ann, wife of Samuel Fuller. See " Was Matthew Fuller of Plymouth Colony a Son of Pilgrim Edward Fuller?" in TAG Vol. 61, pp. 194-199 for a discussion of Matthew's parentage and the strong evidence that Edward was his father, rather than John, brother of Edward.

Son of Edward & Ann (Hopkins) Fuller. Husband to Jane (Lothrop) Fuller, and father to nine children: Hannah, Samuel, Elizabeth, Sarah, Mary, Thomas, Sarah, John, and a child whose name is not recorded but who died 15 days after birth.

Samuel Fuller was a passenger on the Mayflower, along with his parents. Both parents died shortly after landing at Plymouth during the first winter and Samuel was raised by his uncle, Dr. Samuel Fuller, who was also a Mayflower passenger.

Samuel Fuller became a freeman of Plymouth in 1634. He married Jane Lothrop, the daughter of Rev. John Lothrop and his wife Hannah Howes, on April 8, 1635 in Scituate. He and his wife would raise their family initially at Scituate, before moving sometime shortly before 1641 to Barnstable.

He would live out the next forty years of his life in Barnstable and be one of the last surviving Mayflower passengers. His probate records indicate that his wife preceeded him in death. He also bequeathed an Indian slave named Joel to his son John.

Samuel Fuller is believed to be buried either on the grounds of his estate, or the ancient burial grounds on Lothrop's Hill in Barnstable (known today as Lothrop Hill Cemetery).

    From FindaGrave:

Lieut. Samuel Fuller,3 born likely in England as the apparent eldest son of Dr. Matthew Fuller,2 (Edward,1 of the Mayflower).[1] Whereas Lieut. Samuel's grandfather Edward Fuller,1 arrived in 1620 aboard the Mayflower, Lieut. Samuel and his father did not arrive in New England until circa Oct. 1640.[2] In his will and at his death, Lieut. Samuel's age is not stated to assist in a realistic estimate of when he was born.

Samuel d. testate having prepared his will before being engaged as Lieut. of militia forces from the Plymouth Colony, under Capt. Michael Pierce of Scituate, Mass., in the King Philip's War against the Narragansett Indians. Samuel and the major portion of Capt. Pierce's force were killed in action on Sunday, Mar. 26, 1676 and buried at the location of their ambush at present-day Central Falls, Providence County, Rhode Island just west of the Blackstone River.

By circa 1660 Lieut. Samuel m. Mary, whose maiden name remains unknown. She was living Aug. 7, 1696 at Barnstable as her husband's widow, but when and where she died is not found in any known vital, deed, church or probate record. They had the following seven known children, all b. at Barnstable, Mass.:

    • i. Capt. Thomas Fuller, b. circa 1661, d. Nov. 2, 1718 (NOT 1719 as inscribed on his modern 1948 g.s.) at Barnstable, Æ 58; m. Dec. 29, 1680 at Barnstable, Elizabeth Lothrop, dau. of Capt. Joseph Lothrop (Rev. John1) & Mary Ansel, b. Sept. 18, 1659 at Barnstable. She survived her husband and was living Jan. 13, 1718/19 at Barnstable when appointed executrix of her husband's estate. Eight children of the family.

    • ii. Jabez Fuller, b. circa 1664, d. bef. Sept. 15, 1711 at Middleborough, Mass.; m. circa 1687 poss. at Sandwich, Mass., Mary Hallett, dau. of Joseph Hallett & Elizabeth Gorham. Mary was b. circa 1667 at Barnstable and d. after May 11, 1711 at Middleborough, the gr. granddau. of Mayflower passenger John Howland. Six children b. of record at Barnstable.

    • iii. Ann Fuller, b. circa 1670, d. July 2, 1722 at Barnstable, Mass., Æ 53 (g.s.); m. Apr. 29, 1689 at Barnstable, Joseph Smith, s. of Rev. John Smith & Susannah Hinckley. He was b. Dec. 6, 1667 at Barnstable, Mass. and d. there Mar. 14, 1746/7, Æ 80. Thirteen children of record at Barnstable.

    • iv. Timothy Fuller, b. circa 1671, d. Nov. 30, 1748 at East Haddam, Conn., Æ 78 (g.s.); m. 1) by 1694 Sarah Gates at Haddam, Conn., dau. of Capt. George Gates & Sarah Olmsted. She was b. Mar. 16, 1669/70 at Haddam and d. after the birth of her son Samuel in Sept. 1711. Seven children of record at East Haddam, Conn. Timothy m. 2) by early 1715, Mary Champion, dau. of Thomas Champion and Hannah Brockway, b. of record July 31, 1693 at Lyme, Conn. She d. Dec. 12, 1770 at East Haddam, Conn., Æ 78 (g.s.). Eight children of the marriage.

    • v. Matthias Fuller, b. circa 1672, d. unmarried betw. Aug. 7, 1696 and May 6, 1697 while serving as a soldier in Phipps' Expedition against the French in Canada. Left a will dated Aug. 7, 1696 naming his brother Timothy of Haddam, Conn. as executor of his estate and left property for support of "my honored mother."

    • vi. Abigail Fuller, b. circa 1674, d. Apr. 11, 1718 at Newton, Mass.; m. Apr. 4, 1704 at Hingham, Mass., Israel Stowell, s. of Samuel Stowell & Mary Farrow. He was b. Aug. 10, 1670 at Hingham, Mass. and d. Aug. 7, 1725 at Newton, Mass. Seven children of the family.

    • vii. Sgt. Samuel Fuller, b. Aug. 15, 1676 after his father's death, d. Sept. 29, 1716 at Mansfield, Conn., Æ 41; m. Oct. 3, 1700 prob. at Chilmark on Martha's Vineyard (Dukes County, Mass.), Elizabeth Thacher, dau. of Rev. Rodolphus Thacher & Ruth Partridge. She was b. Mar. 1, 1671/2 at Duxbury, Mass. and d. after 1740 prob. at Mansfield, Conn. Seven children of the family, all recorded at Mansfield, Conn. Elizabeth m. 2) July 8, 1724 at Lebanon, Conn., Miles Standish, grandson of Capt. Myles Standish of the 1620 Mayflower passage and Plymouth Colony. There are no known children of Elizabeth's second marriage.

[1] Numerous sources on the internet claim Samuel was b. "Feb. 11, 1637" in England, this date being a date in the pre-1752 English Julian calendar, in which, on its face, is historically written in the post-January 1, 1752 modern English Gregorian calendar as Feb. 11, 1637/8. On Feb. 11, 1637/8, Samuel's 1st cousin Samuel (Samuel, Edward) was baptized at Scituate, Mass. The writer believes the date of the known baptism in New England of Samuel's cousin has been erroneously applied as the basis of the "date of birth" for Samuel (Matthew, Edward) in England.

[2] In 1620 Lieut. Samuel's paternal grandfather Edward Fuller was accompanied on the Mayflower by Edward's son Samuel, Edward's brother Dr. Samuel, and Dr. Samuel's son Samuel. Edward d. at Plymouth in the Spring of 1621, Dr. Samuel d. testate at Plymouth in 1633, while Edward and Dr. Samuel's individual sons named Samuel lived out their lives in New England.

John Fuller, son of Samuel Fuller, was born about 1656 in Barnstable, Massachusetts. He was known as Little John to distinguish him from his Uncle John Fuller. He married Mehitable Rowley, the daughter of Moses and Elizabeth Fuller Rowley, about 1678 in Barnstable. Mehitable was born January 11, 1660 in Barnstable. In 1683 John's father, Samuel, died. The will left John "4 acres of marsh, 3 year old horse running in woods, dwellinghouse, orchyard, and all out housing, the indian Jaell, a cart, plow, tooles, one fatt cow, my bald faced horse, my great bible, and one third of the other cattle." John and Mehitable lived in the dwelling house at Scorton Neck on Cape Cod. In 1694 they moved west 146 miles to East Haddam, Connecticut and remain there 32 years until his death. John Fuller died 20 May 1726 in East Haddam and Mehitable died there about 1732. John was buried in Old Cove Burying Ground, East Haddam, Middlesex, Connecticut . Five of John's 12 children were born in East Haddam. Joseph Fuller was one of the children born in East Haddam.

From "The Mayflower 500" by Gary Boyd Roberts (2020), p. 639 ff

An article in Mayflower Descendant 67 (2019): 117-149 argues persuasively from DNA evidence that the father of John Sprague, Jr. (ca. 1655-1727/8) of Duxbury, Mass., and Lebanon, Conn., was not John Sprague (ca. 1610-1676), husband of Ruth Bassett, but a member of the Mayflower Fuller family, almost certainly Samuel2 Fuller, son of Mayflower passenger Samuel Fuller and Bridget Lee. ... If this conclusion is correct, the distinguished British of Lord Randolph [Henry Spencer-] Churchill and Jeanette "Jennie" Jerome have a Mayflower passenger descent as well as a line from John Howland's brother Arthur. Other Fuller-Sprague descendants, through only one of seven children of John Sprague Jr., and his first wife, Lydia ____, include "Natacha Rambova", whose John Howland descent is charted on p. 43 [2] herein, noted costume and set designer, actress, Egyptologist and wife of movie idol Rudilph Valentino; and Marion Robert [later Mitchell] Morrison, known as John Wayne, the actor. Yet another Fuller-Sprague descendant, as treated by Christopher Challender Child in "Mayor Pete's Cousins" (https://vitabrevis.americanancestors.org, posted 17 June 2019), is 2020 Democratic hopeful Peter Paul Montgomery "Pete" Buttigieg.
