    BRUNDAGE

    Amittai Ostrander Brundage, who has maintained a residence in Washington, DCm since 1954m in addition to her legal residence in Pompano Beach, Fl., died at the Washington Hospital Center, January 3rd following a short illness. She was extremely active in her lifetime in International affairs and widely traveled. Survived by her husband Percival Flack Brundage, a former Director of the Bureau of the Budget and former senior partner of Price Waterhouse and Co.; brother John Alden Somerville, Long Island, NY; daughter Lois B. Baker, Ridgewood, N.J.; five grandchildren and a great-granson. Friends may send donations to the American Cancer Society or to Project Hope.

    Mrs. Brundage Memorial Held

    Memorial services for Amittai Ostrander Brundage of Washington, D.C., and Pompano Beach, Fl., were held last Wednesday in the Bethlehem Chapel of the Washington National Cathedral. She died Monday, Jan. 3, in Washington Hospital Center.

    Mrs. Brundage, a one-time Montclair resident, was the wife of Percival Flack Brundage, a former director of the United States Bureau of the Budget and a former senior partner of Price, Waterhouse, and Co.

    Born in New York City, Mrs. Brundage lived there after her marriage in 1920 and in West Newton, Ma., after coming to Montclair. Since 1954, she and Mr. Brundage resided in Washington, D.C., and Pompano Beach, Fl.

    Mrs. Brundate was chairman of a large hospitality committee which entertained more than 15,000 servicemen from Australia, New Zealand, and other parts of the British empire in their homes in Montclair during World War II. She had also served as a hospitality chairman in the Brooklyn Navy Yar. She was instrumental in placing many refugees from the blitz in England and Europe in Montclair Homes for the duration of the war.

    Following the war, the British Consulate General of New York presented Mrs. Brundage with the King's Medal for service in the cause of freedom. She was also commended by the prime minister of the Commonwealth of Australia for her service to Australian servicement during the war and her "contribution towards the cause of good will and understanding between the people of Australia and those of the United States of America."

    Mrs. Brundage was a founder member of Overseas Neighbors of Montclair, a former trustee of the Montclair Art Museaum and a member of the Women's National Republican Club of New York. She was a member of the International Neighbors Club in Washington, D.C., a director of the International Student House, an associate member of the American Newspaper Women's Club, and a member of the Selgrave and Chevy Chase Clubs.

    She was active in and a former president of the Montclair Cosmopolitan Club, The Unitarian Church, and the Unitarian Service Committee in New York.

    In addition to her husband, Mrs. Brundage is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lois B. Baker of Ridgewood; a brother, John Alden Somerville of Long Island, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

    Sara married Percival Flack Brundage after 20 May 1918. Percival (son of Rev. Dr. William Milton Brundage and Charlotte Hannah Flack) was born on 2 Apr 1892 in Amsterdam, Montgomery County, New York; died on 16 Jul 1979 in Ridgewood, Bergen County, New Jersey. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Lois Brundage Baker

    Lois Brundage Baker died on Nov. 27.

    She was a writer, photographer, columnist and publicist. She was a lifetime Jr. League member. Before moving to Hillsboro Beach in 1991, Lois and her family lived in Ridgewood. There, she was a founder and board member of the Volunteer Bureau, member of Project Pride, worked with the Jr. League Children's Theatre, The Depot (a women's exchange), Family Counseling board member, FCSA, Red Cross board member and chairperson of "Jazz in the Park" the annual Red Cross fund-raiser.

    She wrote a weekly column for the Ridgewood News called "Around Ridgewood," and she volunteered at the Forum School, a program for developmentally disabled children. She was one of the initial collaborators of the Forum Feasts cookbook, which raised over $1 million for the Forum School before it ended publication. She also worked at Becton Dickenson in Archives and was the writer and editor of "The Echo," the newsletter for BD retirees.

    Upon arrival in Hillsboro Beach, she joined Horses and the Handicapped, a local riding program for children afflicted by various disabilities. She was a board member, responsible for H&H publicity and fund-raising events. She volunteered as a horse sidewalker, stable mate, speaker and recruiter of volunteers. She continued writing and had articles published in the "Pompano Pelican," and also volunteered to help edit the weekly publication. She penned a sustainer column for the Jr. League of Boca Raton newsletter. She enjoyed doing oral history interviews and taking pictures for the Historical Society of Boca Raton.

    She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joe; her children, Lucy, Chet and Kathy; and her five grandchildren.

    Arrangements were by Kraeer Funeral Home in Boca Raton, Fla.

    Lois married Joseph L. "Joe" Baker on 8 Oct 1948 in Montclair, Essex County, New Jersey. Joseph died after 2011. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
