    From FindaGrave:

Matthew Grant, the immigrant ancestor of his descendant family, b. in his own words Oct. 27, 1601 at an unstated place, presumably in England. The claim that he was the s. of John Grant and Alice Turberville, or any other set of named parents, is not proved and should not be relied on as ancestral fact. He d. testate at Windsor, Conn. Dec. 16, 1681, Æ 81 and is assumed to be interred at Palisado Cemetery at Windsor.

In Matthew's own words, on Nov. 16, 1625, Matthew m. 1) Priscilla, whose maiden name and parentage remain unknown. She d. at Windsor, Conn. Apr. 27, 1644, "aged 43 years and 2 months" (i.e., 42 yrs and 2 mos. old). There were four surviving children of the family. Matthew, through son Samuel, is the ancestor of Ulysses Simpson Grant, commanding General of the Union Army in the American Civil War and 18th U.S. President.

Matthew m. 2) of record May 29, 1645 at Windsor, Conn., Susanna Capen, dau. of Barnard Capen and Joan Purchase, and widow of Dea. William Rockwell, either b. or bapt. However, second wife Susanna Capen's own gr. granddau. Martha Huntington is also President Grant's ancestor, as Martha m. Matthew Grant's gr. grandson Noah Grant, and were the gr. grandparents of Jesse Root Grant, Pres. Grant's father.
