    of Sutton, who was the son of John and Elizabeth (Goldthwait King of Salem, born 1638, the son of William who emigrated from London, England to Salem in 1635 at the age of 28.

    Abigail (Green) King was the daughter of Captain Samuel and Elizabeth (Upham) Green, from Malden, original settlers of Leicester, son of Thomas and Rebecca (Hills) Green of Malden, whose father Thomas and wife Elizabeth early came to Malden.

    He was educated there in public schools.  He learned the trade of shoemaker and for seventeen years worked for the firm of E. B. & A. M. Bigelow, shoe manufacturers, advancing to a responsbiel position in the business.  In 1858, he was
    appointed the high sheriff of Worcester County, and he held this important and responsible office until his death, January 4, 1888. He was well known, especially in the legal fraternity of the County and to his own townspeople.  He represented
    the town of Grafton and his district in the general court in 1866.
