Worthen Hall went to sea in a whaling vessel in 1821 and followed that occupation for twenty-eight years, and for the last 18 years of that time was the commander of the ship. He circumnavigated the earth twice, doubled Cape Horn six times,
doubled the Cape of Good Hope six times, had killed 500 whales, and brought home 2500 barrels of oil. He had obtained ample wealth and had been a director of the Bank of Newport, NH for many years. He was a representative of Newport in 1866
and 1867.
