His grandfather, Storrs, gave him a tract in Lebanon, then a wilderness, in case he would settle on it, which he was reluctant to do, on account of the necessary hardships to which it would subject his wife. This was before he was married, but he was engaged to be married. However, his intended bride settled the business by telling him that if he did not go, she would not marry him. Of course, he went, and after he had cleared it up, he sold it, and bought another farm of 300 acres further back from the river. He was a soldier in the revolutionary war, and was present at the surrender of Burgoyne, at Saratoga. He was captain of militia.

    Children were:

    1.    Storrs, b. Jan. 5, 1770; d. early in life, but had a family and lived in Randolph, Vt.; and one of his sons lived in Brookfield, Vt., and when a boy was a schoolmate with Rev. Dr. Asa D. Smith, president of Dartmouth College, and for many years a beloved and highly esteemed pastor in New York city.
    2.    Dan, b. April 10, 1771; d. in Lebanon.
    3.    Ira, b. Dec. 20, 1772 (Family 151).
    4.    Martha, b. Sept. 21, 1774; m. Mr. Freeman of Lebanon and had a large family.

    8.    Cynthia, d. young.
    9.    Silas, b. Oct. 12, 1787.
    10.  Polly, b. July 3, 1790; m. B. Bowen, of Grafton, Vt.; had no children.
