    Notes:

    From FindaGrave:

She is found in various contemporary records as Anna, Anne, and Ann. For instance, her husband's will calls her Anna. The old settlers cenotaph located in the Old Winslow Burying Ground, Marshfield, Massachusetts, spells her name as "Ann" Little; but keep in mind that monument was erected over two centuries after her death.

Anna's parents, Richard Warren & Elizabeth Walker married 14 April 1610, in Great Amwell, Hertfordshire, England. Elizabeth was the daughter of Augustine Walker, who died in 1614 in England.

Richard Warren, a well-to-do London merchant, sailed in 1620 on the "Mayflower" from England to the New World -- a miserable winter voyage lasting 66 days. Richard was among the ten passengers in the landing party at Cape Cod on November 11, 1620. Richard was one of the 41 who signed the Mayflower Compact. He was one of the 19 signers who survived the harsh first winter in Plymouth Colony. Of 102 passengers and about 30 crew members on the Mayflower, almost half died before spring arrived in 1621.

Richard Warren was not one of the Leiden Puritans fleeing religious persecution, but rather one of the so-called "strangers" who comprised more than half of the 102 passengers on the Mayflower. In Plymouth, he served as Assistant Governor of the Colony and was the 12th signer of the Mayflower Compact. One of the more important and accomplished members of the Colony, Gov. William Bradford referred to him as "Grave Richard Warren, a man of integrity, justice and uprightness, of piety and serious religion, a useful citizen, bearing a deep share of the difficulties and troubles of the plantation."

In 1623, Richard's wife Elizabeth and their five daughters: Mary, Anna, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Abigail, sailed from England to Plymouth, Massachusetts, on the ship "Anne" to join Richard. Richard & Elizabeth then had two sons: Nathaniel and Joseph, in Plymouth Colony before Richard died in 1628.

All seven of Richard Warren's children survived to adulthood, married, and had large families. He is the Mayflower passenger with the most descendants, numbering over 14 million. Included in that number are President Ulysses S. Grant, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt*, astronaut Alan Shephard, actor Richard Gere, authors Henry David Thoreau and Laura Ingalls Wilder, folk artist Grandma Moses, and United States Army General Leonard Wood.

Anna married 19 April 1633, in Plymouth, MA, to Thomas Little. He died in March 1671/72. Anna was likely buried beside her husband in Old Winslow Burying Ground in Marshfield, MA.

GRANDDAUGHTER OF RICHARD WARREN OF THE MAYFLOWER

A BIOGRAPHY OF MERCY WARREN BRADFORD, by Laurence Overmire (8th great grandson), Aug. 2008:

Mercy Warren was born Sept. 23, 1653, in Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, the eldest of six children of Joseph and Priscilla (Faunce) Warren, and the granddaughter of Richard Warren of the Mayflower. John and Mercy shared common ancestors in Alexander Carpenter and Priscilla Dillon, who were the father and mother-in-law of Gov. William Bradford.

Mercy married Maj. John Bradford on Jan. 6, 1673/74 in Plymouth. He was the son of Maj. William Bradford and his wife Alice Richards, and the grandson of Gov. William Bradford of the Mayflower.

Mercy would give birth to seven children in the ensuing years: John (1675-1724), Alice (1677-1746), Abigail (1679-1697), Mercy (1681-1738), Samuel (1683-1740), Priscilla (1686-1732), and William (1688-1728).

Mercy and John became members of the Plymouth church in 1690. Her husband was prominent in civic affairs. He was not only a military leader, but served as representative to the First General Court at Boston and helped to incorporate Plymouth as a separate town.

Their home in Kingston, built in 1675, is still standing and open to the public today. According to tradition, the Indians attempted to burn the house during King Philip's War. John Bradford discovered the fire. He spied an Indian on Abrams Hill waving a blanket and shouting to his fellows, and shot him. But on approach, he could not find the body. After the war, the Indian met Bradford and showed him the scars of his wound.

Mercy Bradford died in March 1747, at the age of about 94, and was laid to rest in the Old Burying Bround at First Church in Kingston.

MEMBER OF THE MASSACHUSETTS HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

    -------------------

A BIOGRAPHY OF LT. SAMUEL BRADFORD, by Laurence Overmire (7th great grandson), Aug. 2008:

Samuel Bradford was born in Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, Dec. 23, 1683, the fifth of seven children of Maj. John Bradford and Mercy Warren. His father was the grandson of Gov. William Bradford of the Mayflower. His mother was the granddaughter of Richard Warren of the Mayflower.

On Oct. 21, 1714, at Plympton, Massachusetts, 31-year-old Samuel married 17-year-old Sarah Gray, the daughter of Edward and Mary Smith Gray of Tiverton, Rhode Island. Sarah was the half-sister of Samuel Gray who was the second man shot at the Boston Massacre and the first American to die in the Revolutionary War. She was also the aunt of Capt. Robert Gray, the American explorer who discovered the Columbia River and staked America's claim to the Oregon Territory.

Sarah gave birth to ten children: John, Gideon, William (died in childhood), Mary, Sarah, William, Mercy (died in infancy), Abigail, Phebe, and Samuel.

Samuel inherited property from his father's estate. He also inherited Gov. William Bradford's precious manuscript, "Of Plimouth Plantation," one of the most important documents of early American history. The work was loaned to Rev. Thomas Prince who was using it as a reference for his own book that he was writing. He kept it in his library in Boston's Old South Church. The British, who occupied the Old South Church during the Revolution, then got hold of it. Later it turned up in the Bishop of London's palace and was only returned to the state of Massachusetts, after some negotiation, in 1897.

Samuel Bradford was a leading citizen of Plympton. He was Selectman several times, a Representative to the General Court, and Lieutenant of Plympton Battery. He died in Plympton on Mar. 26, 1740, at the age of 56, and was laid to rest in Ye Olde Burial Grounds there.
