  Julia and her mother died on the same day - both "found" on May 15th. They died over the night due to gas. Cornelia's husband, the President of Clark University was out of town. She had spent a pleasant evening with her two children, son Robert aged 10 and daughter Julia aged 8. Since daughter Julia had not been feeling well, it was decided she would sleep with her mother. Cornelia was last seen reading in the library of her home when her two servants retired about 10pm. The bedroom had four gas jets, one of which apparently had been left open by accident. Cornelia and her daughter were found in the morning when the servants became alarmed that they did not answer the bell. A lengthy article describing the events leading up to the discovery, who was called, who came, etc. is printed in an article titled "Victims of Deadly Gas Mrs. G. Stanley Hall and Her Daughter Suffocated in Their Room" published Friday, May 16, 1890 in the Worcester Daily Spy.
