- He married Phebe Bangs on April 3,1777. He settled in Pudding Hollow section of Hawley in the Fall of 1794.
He enlisted in April 1775 in Capt.Joshua Gray's Company. In May 1778 he entered on board a ship of war at Boston, and in 1779 he sailed as a Marine on a cruise to the West Indies. From April, 1781 he was Captain of a schooner and in May of that year, while engaged in transporting military storesfrom the French Fleet to Providence,RI, his vessel was taken in the night by four British ships. He and his crew were carried as prisoners to Halifax,Nova Scotia. He was exchanged in September 1781 and returned home.
