      He was the husband of the late Myrtle (Chapman) Sykes, they married May 23, 1945 in Lowell, MA.

      He helped at the family business Sykes the Florist of Lowell. Worked in George C Moore Mill in Lowell for 25 years.

      Son of Richard Oades Sykes Sr and Katherine (Vennard) Sykes. Graduated Riverside School and Lowell High School Class of 1936

      Veteran of WWII as a Bombadier and Nosegunner in the Air Force. Engaged in 64 missions in Europe and North Africa, recipient of Distinguished Flying Cross, American Defense Service Metal, the Air Metal, the European Theatre Pre-Pearl Harbor ribbons, Good Conduct Medal, as well as the Purple Heart for a neck injury sustained when his B-25 was pierced by flak. Honorable discharge August 1945
