  He wrote: (from 2004 Howes genealogy) "There was a great snow in 1717 when Grandmother Howes was born. it started snowing Feb 21st and continued for 21 days. People had to be removed from the second story of their buildings, and many cattle perished." His mother told him this Sep. 22, 1848 and many times previous.
