  • Notes
    • From FindaGrave:

JONATHAN ATWATER was the son of DAVID & DAMARIS (SAYRE) ATWATER of the Cedar Hill district of New Haven. He married RUTH PECK, daughter of REV. JEREMIAH & JOANNA (KITCHELL) PECK on June 1, 1681 in New Haven.

He was a successful merchant in New Haven with a large estate of 15,323 pounds (equal to half of the value of all of the estates in New Haven at that time) which included 4,000 acres of land and goods to stock a retail store.

Jonathan Atwater of New Haven paid William Maltbie of Branford to build the Brigantine called "the Friends Adventure". On Dec. 8, 1699, Ebenzer Atwater bought 1/4 and Moses Mansfield bought 1/5.

My ancestor, MARY (ATWATER) DICKERMAN, was the daughter of Jonathan & Ruth (Peck) Atwater.
