It is not known when Thomas left Yarmouth and went to Eastham where he met Content SMITH, daughter of Daniel SMITH. They married in Eastham in 1701 and by 1703 Thomas had purchased land in Chatham.

By deed dated 8 April 1703, Thomas purchased of William GRIFFITH, Sr. all the real estate of the latter at Monomoit, consisting of a homestead lot of 26 acres in the Christopher SMITH neighborhood, one half of 20 acres on the Great Neck and some meadow land [ in all about 40 acres].

Two years later by deed dated 22 Oct. 1705, he purchased of Phillip GRIFFITH a lot of 4 acres adjoining the homestead, the other half of the 200 acre lot on Great Neck and another lot of meadow.

Still later by deed dated 6 April 1713, he purchased of James ELDREDGE, the farm inherited by the latter from his father, Nicholas ELDREDGE, which adjoined a portion of the HOWES farm.
