      John Chase was the son of Aquilla Chase II and Ann Wheeler and the husband of 1) Elizabeth Bingley and 2) Lydia Challis. A soldier in King Philip's War he participated in the battle at Peskeompskut (Falls Fight). Soon after the battle Chase guided the scouting party that located and buried the fallen men, who included Captain William Turner.

      Will 22 Oct 1730

      "In the name of God, Amen. The twenty second day of Octobr One Thousand seven hundred &thirty and in ye fourth year of ye Reign of our sovereign Lord George ye second King of Great Britain &c I John Chase of Newbury In ye County of Essex and in ye Province of the Massachtts (sic) Bay In New England Husbandman Being at this Time weak of Body and Calling to Mind my Mortality and knowing It is appointed for man once to Die Do make, ordain & constitute this my Last will & testament whilst my understanding & memory Is continued To me, as by Gods Goodness It is at this time (blessed be to God for it) and First of all Recommend my soul into ye hands of God That gave it and my body I Recommend to ye earth to be buried in Decent Christian Buryal at the Sescretion of my executor and as touching such worldly estate as it hath pleased God To bless me with in this Life, I do Demise & Dispose of in ye following order or Form

      Imprimis I give and Demise unto Lydia my Dearly beloved wife the one third of my Real Estate During her Natural Life and all my Moveable Estate of what name or Nature soever to her and her Dispose forever.

      Item I give unto my son Philip Chase the sum of five shillings to be paid by my Execr out of my estate after my Decease (the Reason why I give this my son no more is because he hath Received His Portion already. Item I give unto my son Charles Chase five shillings to be paid to him by my executor out of my estate after my decease. The Reason why I give this my son no more is because he hath Received His Portion already. Item I give unto my son Jacob Chase the sum of five shillings to be paid by my Execr out of my estate after my Decease (the Reason why I give this my son no more is because he hath Received his Portion already. Item I give unto my son Abraham Chase five shillings to be paid to him by my execr after my Decease out of my estate. The Reason why I give this my son no more is because he hath Received his Portion already. Item I give unto my Daughter Phebee Tucker ye sum of six pounds to be paid to her by my executor out of my estate after my decease. (Besides what she hath already had). Item I give unto my Daughter Mary Safford ye sum of five shillings to be paid to her by my execr out of my estate after my Decease (the reason why I give her no more is because she hath had her Portion already).Item I give unto my Daughter Lydia five shillings to be paid by my execr after my decease out of my estate."

      Note: the will goes on for another page and additional bequests are made to son David Chase, including the house and barn and the remainder of the estate. He also gave bequests to grandson John, son of John; daughter Elizabeth; and, grandson Jonathan, son of Charles. He named his son David Chase the Executor of the estate.
