  	FIRST CHILD BORN IN STATE OF OREGON IS INFLUENZa VICTIM YAKIMA, Was., Nov. 12 -- This week the influenza claimed as one of its victims Abigail Karr, almost 79 years of age. She is said to be the first white woman born in the present states of Oregon and Washington. She was the daughter of Elkannah Walker, who came to the Northwest in the second missionary train, arriving at Walla Walla in 1838. She was born May 24, 1840, and at the age of 7 passed throgh the Whitman massacre. Professor Thomas Gatch, for many years president of the University of Washington, and one of the pioneer educators of the Northwest, was one of her teachers. She later took to teaching and while instructing the youth of Hoquiam met and was married to James A. Karr.Mrs. Karr was the mother of 12 children, none of whom survive her.
