Subject: More on Ohio and Indiana

      John,

Apparently Eliza Simmons, mother of Sarah N. Sims (who married Nelson Wesley Hall) was daughter to Charles Simmons of Devonshire, England. Eliza's siblings were Henry and George Simmons. (They were all born in Devonshire.) Annie says, "Charles failed to doff his hat to the King as he rode by with his entourage. This was a crime punishable by a prison sentence. Charles quickly immigrated to the U.S. before he was caught. He was truly an independent spirit...

Charles Simmons was a properous miller who lived in the mill of his family. Some of Charles' brothers settled in Summit County, Ohio; some went to Indiana."

      More:

"Sons of Henry and George encountered Nelson Wesley Hall during a lull in the fighting of the Civil War. The Simmons boys were Confederate soldiers and Nelson Wesley Hall was a Union soldier. Henry and George were early settlers of Summit County, Ohio."
