      86 years old It was suggested that previous generations of this family sometimes spelled the name "Hayward".

      Levi moved to Townsend about 1775. Local historians credit him with building the first farmhouse in the area.

      Vermont Phœnix, June 08, 1838: "Died, n Townshend, May 14, Mr. Levi Howard, aged 85, a soldier of the Revolution. Printers in N. York and Mass are requestd &c."
