- Abraham Staples was an original settler of Blackstone, MA, in 1667. The area of Blackstone was known as the South Parish or the South Precinct of Mendon. He fled Mendon in 1675 during the King Philip War. He returned to Mendon in 1678. He,
and his wife, Mary Randall, moved to what is now known as the Daniels Farmstead in 1678.
Seth Southwick (1768-1835) bought the farm from Nahor Staples in 1793. Nahor Staples was a fourth generation direct descendent of Abraham Staples.
The Southwick Family is the same family that started Southwicks Zoo in Mendon, MA which began with Justin Southwick in 1963,
