  Williams Barton prepared for college at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, NH, and graduated at Dartmouth College 1845. He studied medicine with Dr. Nelson, Dr. Coburn, Dr. Albina Hall, and Dr. Joseph Nichols and stands high in his profession. He has also taken a deep interest in educational affairs, and has been the Chairman of the School Committee of Croydon many years. He was Commissioner of Sullivan County for three years.
