    • From FindaGrave:

Major Benjamin Ackley, Jr. was born in 1739 and baptized on 28 October 1739 in East Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut. He became a member of the East Haddam Church on 1 November 1765.

      He married Hannah Higgins on 15 January 1756 and together they had seven children: Hannah b. 1756, Ruth b. 1758, Ichabod b. 1761, Chloe b. 1763, Chloe b. 1765, Rosina b. 1767, and Zilpah b. 1769.

After Hannah's death, Benjamin married Elizabeth Buell Carter, widow of Eleazer Carter of Kent, Lichfield County, Vermont in 1783 and together they had three sons: Eleazer, Orange, and John Anson.

Major Ackley took Elizabeth and her children from her previous marriage to lieutenant Eleazer Carter, and some of his other children from his first marriage to Hannah Higgins to Castleton, Vermont where Elizabeth's brother Ephraim Buell had recently settled. He died on 28 March 1796 and is buried in the Old Church Yard in Castleton, Vermont.
