    • From FindaGrave:

"Bertha Hereford Hall was born in Marietta, Ohio, January 26, 1857. She was the daughter of John and Frances Hereford Hall, and a descendant of Betty Washington Lewis, sister of George Washington. After her graduation from Marietta High School, she taught three years in the public schools and three years in the Cleveland Seminary. Miss Hall and a friend founded the Phelps School in Columbus, Ohio, where she taught for twenty-five years. There she joined the Virginia Chapter of the Colonial Dames of America and was a loyal member of Columbus Chapter DAR, for over thirty-five years.

"When Bertha Hereford Hall retired from teaching, she joined her mother and sisters in Fruitland Park, Florida. Her parents had been early settlers in the community. An Episcopalian all her life, she became a member of the Holy Trinity Church in Fruitland Park, and was secretary-treasurer of the church's Women's Guild for many years. She is mentioned in the 'History of Lake County' for her untiring work with the local Red Cross, having been from the beginning its secretary and treasurer.

"When Mrs. Franklin L. Ezell suggested a DAR chapter be formed in Leesburg, Miss Hall immediately became interested and put forth every effort to assist, promising to transfer her membership to the new chapter. Unfortunately, she died October 16, 1928, and the chapter was not chartered until December 10, 1929. The chapter was named in her memory on July 9, 1929."
