- From FindaGrave:
Possibly a daughter of Anne and John Butler of Cusop, Herfordshire England; unproven.
(1) Widow of Samuel (aka Samuel William) Robords/Roberts. They had 3 known sons; William Roberts, Deacon Samuel Roberts III and John Roberts Sr.
(2) Married unknown Leete/Leeke/Leite They had no issue.
(3) Married Thomas Whitmore 8 October 1673 at Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut. She was his third wife. They had three known children; Benjamin Whitmore, Abigail Whitmore and Hannah Whitmore.
Her Roberts children were born prior to her Whitmore children; thus she would be the "widow Whitmore" at her death.
As early as 1673 we find her with her three Roberts sons. Whether they came to New England with her, or were born here has not been determined, but we do know that she married Thomas Whitmore, Sr under the name of Leete or Leeke in Middletown, Ct. on 8 Oct 1673. [It is reasoned that she married "Leite" between marriages to Roberts and Whitmore; otherwise, why would they use the surname Leite on her marriage record to Whitmore?]
Her will is dated 14 Aug 1688. It was witnessed by John Hall, Sr and Beriah Wetmore. The inventory of her estate taken 26 Oct 1693 amounted to about 108 pounds. Her signature is made with her mark. It was proved 26 Oct 1693. One reference reports that her maiden name WAS Butler.
The real proof that Katherine was a Butler is found in the Will of William Pennoyer, Esq. 25 May 1670, proved 13 Feb 1670. NEHGR Vol.45 pages 158-9. Page 159 states, in part:
"To Katherine Butler alias Roberts, sister to the aforesaid Evan Butler, five pounds to be paid to her own hands."
(There was a Thomas Butler, Evan Butler and Katherine Butler attributed as children of "Anne and John Butler" on various family trees and wills cited.)
