- Laura Wicks Howes, 86
Laura Howes passed away February 14th in the company of her family.
She was born December 5th 1927 in Cleveland Ohio the daughter of Paul and Almira Wick of Youngstown.
She was educated at Foxcroft School in Middleburg VA. Wellesley College and received her bachelor's and master's degrees in English from Dominican College in San Rafael CA.
In 1951 she married Osborn Howes of Boston where they spent their first married year.
They then strapped their skis to the top of the car and headed west to Seattle. From there they gradually migrated south to the San Francisco Bay Area settling in Kentfield for 48 years. She was an ardent sailor excellent swimmer tennis player lover of all the arts and extraordinary cook. Laura spoke her mind possessing a sharp intellect and subtle wit. She disdained ostentation euphemism and avoided extremes of emotion both of sorrow and joy. A gracious hostess she filled any room with warmth common sense and humor.
She leaves a grand legacy to her sons Peter and Sam (Lani) and her daughter Laura "Molly" (Steve) and five grandchildren. She is also survived by her husband and 35 pound border terrier Nikko the scourge of Marin coyotes.
