Mrs. Evermond Hardee Daniel, 78, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002 after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Daniel was born January 26, 1924 in Florence, SC. She was graduated from Westhampton College of the University of Richmond in 1944. She worked as a script-writer for Yankee Network Radio in Boston before marrying Harold Clayton Daniel in October 1945. After living in Rome, GA, Daytona Beach, FL and Auburn, AL, they moved to Charlotte, where she was active in the League of Women Voters.
Mrs. Daniel moved to Monroe in 1953. Her many civic activities included Little Theatre Director, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, American Field Service Parent and Student Liason, representative of Union County Public Library to the NC for Better Libraries Committee, PTA member, Project Pool of the Arts Council and the Salvation Army Board. In addition she was a member of the Red Cross Board and Bloodmobile volunteer chairman. She served the United Way of Union County as an Advisory Board member, Allocation Panel member and chairman of the Special gifts committee. She was a long-time Hospice Board member, helping to facilitate the building of the Union County Hospice Homes. Mrs. Daniel was also a member of the Van Dyke Book Club and Rolling Hills Country Club. In honor of her years of community service, Mrs. Daniel was named Union County Woman of the Year in 1997.
Mrs. Daniel was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Monroe. She was the long-time wedding coordinator and was a Sunday School teacher for several age groups. She served the church as a Deacon, as chairman of the Board of Christian Education and as a member of the Bereavement, Nomination and Music Committees. She was a group facilitator of the Helen Fling Circle.
Mrs. Daniel is survived by her husband of 56 years, Harold Clayton Daniel; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lindsay and Bob Helms of Jacksonville, FL, and Penny and Don Cox of Niceville, FL; four grandchildren, Whitney Helms of Chapel Hill, NC, Jonathan Helms of Winston-Salem, NC, Hannah Cox of Birmingham, AL and Daniel Cox of Birmingham, AL; her brother, Covington Hardee of Washington, CT; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Martha and Sparkie Bourne of Georgetown, SC; and twelve nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe on Thursday evening, March 7, 2002, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be conducted by Dr. Ron Glover at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 8, 2002, at First Baptist Church of Monroe, followed by burial in her family plot at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Florence, SC.
