- Edward Brecke, born about 1595, in Ashton-Under-Lyne, (County of Devon) Lancashire (Lancaster), England, the son Edward Brecke of the Puritan Church of England in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire, England.
He traveled as a Freeman to Boston, possibly aboard the ship "James" from Bristol, England with Captain Taylor as Master on the 7th of August 1635, and settled in Dorchester in 1636.
Edward Breck and a wife (no name), who died in Dorchester, Massachusetts, a daughter, Hannah Breck and a son, Robert Breck arrived from Bristol, England with a Rev. Richard Mather, at Boston, Massachusetts, probably aboard the ship, "James,"with a Captain Taylor as master on 7 August 1635 and where he joined the Puritan Church of England in Dorchester. (Page 11, Book of Brecks) His occupation was listed as a Land Owner and Proprietor in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
Edward Brecke was listed as a freeman in 1635, and an Officer of the Township in 1642, 1645 and 1646, Dorchester, Old Norfolk, Massachusetts. Edward was listed as a proprietor on July 26, 1638, with several properties, buildings, and owning one of the first Grist Mills in New England, and still owning property in Lancaster, England. In 1641, Edward Breck signed an instrument conveying the town of Dorchester all rents and profits of Thompson's Island for the support of a free school in Dorchester. He was also the owner of one of the first grist mills, owning more than one house, and owning property in Lancaster, England.
About 1645, his first wife died, and in 1647, he married Isabel Mary Fiske, the widow of John Rigby (spelling includes: Rigbye, Rigbee) of England, who came to Dorchester around 1637, and were members of the Puritan Church there. Their son, Samuel Rigby was baptized in Dorchester on the 21st of March 1641, using the spelling of Rigbee, and lived on what was known as Adams Street in Dorchester, and where the Honorable John Howe lived in 1886.
Isabel Mary Rigby Fiske was born about 1626, and died on 21 June 1673, in Dorchester.
Edward Breck died on 2 September 1662, and was buried the next day in Dorchester, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. Edward Brecke was survived by his wife, Isabel Mary (Fiske/Rigby) Breck, his son John Breck and and daughter Susannah Breck, his brother John Brecke as listed in his will and Isabel's daughter, Abigail Rigby. Their other children included, Robert Breck, John Breck, Mary Breck and Elizabeth Breck, with Susannah their last child.
