      Peter was the son of John Sanborn of Hampton, Rockingham County, New Hampshire and Lucy Sanborn of Hampton Falls, Rockingham, New Hampshire. Lucy's parents were Joseph Sanborn and Susanna James Sanborn. Lucy and John were married on 28 January 1748 in Hampton, Rockingham County, New Hampshire. Lucy and John had seven children. They were: Lydia Sanborn was born on 14 March 1749; Peter Sanborn was born on 09 January 1752; Susan Sanborn was born on 13 August 1753; Lusa Sanborn was born on 19 October 1755; John Sanborn was born on 15 October 1757; Rufus Sanborn was born on 05 February 1760; and Rachel Sanborn was born on 19 July 1762. All the children were born in in Hampton, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.

      Peter married Lydia Richardson in 1780. Lydia and Peter had seven children.
