JOHN ALLIN, A.M., bapt. Colby, Norf., Eng., May 22, 1597, son of Reginald Allin of Colby, Gent.; Gonville & Caius Coll., Camb., A.B., 1616, A.M. 1619; came to N.E. 1637; Ord. Dedham, Apr. 24, 1639, as the first minister; sett. Dedham, 1637-1671; Overseer, H.C., 1654; Artillery Election Sermon, 1664; d. Dedham, Aug. 26, 1671, a. 75. (F.L. Weiss, The Colonial Clergy and the Colonial Churches of New England, 1936.)

Weiss says he was ord. Sept. 20, 1619; Curate at Denton, Norfolk, and at Wrentham, Suffolk, Eng. but an article by Prof. Wm. F. Allen of Madison, WI in English Origins of New England Families, Second Series, Vol. 1 claims that this John Allin was not the minister who was ord. Sept. 20, 1619; Curate at Denton, Norfolk, and at Wrentham, Suffolk, Eng. (from contributor Jill Chapman)

Allin, son of Reginald Allin of Colby, baptized May 22, 1597; admitted Caius College, Cambridge, 1612; admitted to master's degree 1619; m. Margaret Morsse, Oct 10, 1622, at Wrentham (England); son John b. Oct. 24, 1623, at Wrentham (England).

Allin m. (2) Nov. 8, 1653, Katherine Deighton, widow of Thomas Dudley, according to Anderson's Great Migration Begins. (from contributor LindaMac)
