  • Notes
    • From FindaGrave:

Dorothy Yorke was born 25 April 1582 in Cotton End, Northhampton, Northhamptonshire (then abbreviated as co. Northants,) England to parents Edmund and Katherine Fairfield Robins Yorke.

Dorothy Yorke married Thomas Dudley on her 21st birthday, 25 April 1603, in Hardingstone, Northamptonshire, England.

      They had five children:

      Reverend Samuel Dudley (b. 1608)
poet Anne Dudley Bradstreet (b. 1611/1612)
      Patience Dudley Denison (b. 1613/1614)
Sarah Dudley Keayne Pacy (b. 1620)
      Mercy Dudley Woodbridge (b. 1621)

[Please note, there has been speculation for some time that a Thomas Dudley, who received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1626 and a Master of Arts in 1630 at Cambridge University in England, was the son of Governor Thomas Dudley and his wife Dorothy Yorke Dudley. It is widely published in historical and genealogical registers that there is no evidence to date of this connection. Please see below bibliography.**]

"Dorothy Dudley the wife of Thomas Dudley" was admitted to the Boston church as member #12 in 1630. She died in Roxbury on 27 December 1643 of colic; "a godly Christian woman & left a religious savor behind her." She is believed to be buried in Eliot Burying Ground, however time and weather has erased the location of this grave.
