DEACON, 1725
A BIOGRAPHY OF DEACON ICHABOD PADDOCK, by Laurence Overmire (7th great grandson), Apr. 2015:
Ichabod Paddock was born in Yarmouth, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, June 1, 1687, the eldest of ten children of Zachariah Paddock and Bethiah Hall. He has been shown to be a descendant of the immigrant Augustine Bearse whose Native American wife Mary Hyanno was reportedly the great granddaughter of Chief Canonicus of the Narragansett nation. That heritage, however, has not been proven by genealogical standards. Native American traditions were oral in nature and not preserved in documents.
On Oct. 15, 1712, at Plymouth, Massachusetts, 25-year-old Ichabod married 23-year-old Joanna Faunce, the daughter of Elder Thomas Faunce, Jr., and his wife Jane Nelson. In the ensuing years, Joanna gave birth to nine children: Bethia, Priscilla, Jane, Joanna, Ephraim, Thomas, Zachariah, Patience, and James.
Ichabod and his family moved from Yarmouth to Middleboro in 1722. He was a distinguished elder and deacon of the Church of Plymouth.
He died in Middleboro on Aug. 6, 1750, at the age of 63 and was laid to rest in the Thatcher Cemetery, now a part of Cemetery At the Green.
