- E. S. Bradford, Noted Yachtsman, Dies at 51
NEW HAVEN, March 29 (AP) -- Edward Standish Bradford, 61, of East Longmeadow, Mass., a noted yachting skipper, died today at Grace-New Haven Hospital after a long illness.
Although a resident of the Massachusetts town, he was well known in Connecticut yachting circles and was commodore of the Off-Soundings Club, composed of racing skippers.
Bradford won the Thomas Lipton Challenge Throphy in 1939 with the 54-foot "Delisarius."
At his deathm Bradford was owner ans skipper of the racing yawl "Windward,", based at Essex on the Connecticut River.
Bradford, a native of Springfield, Mass. was president of the Springfield Wire & Tinsel Co., which he founded. He was a veteran of the First World War in which he served as an Army sergeant.
Bradford is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen Simpson Bradford, two sons, Edward S. Bradford Jr. of Easthampton, Mass., and Walter C. Bradford of Boston; a daughter, Mrs. Donald Webber of Haverhill, Mass.; two sisters Mrs. Bradford Tenney of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Robert Irwin of Delray, Fla., and two brothers, William Bradford of Taunton, Mass., and James H. Bradford of Longmeadow.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at Springfield.
