      Tribute written for Nathaniel Emery

Nathaniel Emery is the 12th and last child of Daniel and Anne (Emery) Emery. Nathaniel was born when his father Daniel was 49 years old.

      Children of Daniel and Anne:
      i Daniel
      ii Noah
      iii Elizabeth
      iv Anna
      v Anna
      vi Richard
      vii Sarah
      viii Margaret
      ix George
      x Shem
      xi Dennis
      xii Nathaniel

Nathaniel himself was the father of eight children. Six by his first wife, Lucy Crockett, daughter of Nathaniel and Eunice (Cooper) Crockett and two by his second wife Barbara Whittier. Not to be out done by his father perhaps, Nathaniel fathered his last two children when he was 61 and 63 years old respectively. Nathaniel and Lucy Crockett were married December 26, 1791.

      Children of Nathaniel and Lucy:
      i Anna
      ii Elona (or Elioenai)
      iii Tristram
      iv Levi
      v Thomas
      vi Asa

      Children of Nathaniel and Barbara:
      vii Stillman
      viii Olive

Two of his children left home (Maine) and headed for a new life in Ohio. Tristram and his family left in 1833 and Asa, with Tristram's urging, left with his family in 1844. Ironically, Lucy's parents (Nathaniel and Eunice) had moved to Ohio around 1816 with four of their 14 children and settled in the same area, Seneca county, Ohio, as did their two grandsons (Tristram and Asa) initially.

Nathaniel, to say the least, lived a full life, outliving two wives and four of his eight children. The 1860 census shows Nathaniel and Barbara living in the home of his son Levi, along with Levi's wife Lois (Keen) and their daughter Ellen in Montville, Maine. It's conjecture that that is where he lived out his final years and died, the Emery book published in 1890 states that he settled in South Thomaston and afterwards removed to Thorndike, Me., where he died May 21, 1865. Matters not, he is in fact buried in Halldale Cemetery, West Montville with both wives and many family members.

      God rest his soul.

Rick Emery, 6th generation descendant and a 4th great grandson.
