  • Notes
    • From FindaGrave:

Edward R. Campbell, 69 was the son of Judge Alexander Campbell, M.D. and Rhoda (Corey) Campbell. He married Anna Maria Cutler January 1, 1812 in Rockingham, Vermont, with the Rev. Joseph Elliott, Minister of the Gospel officiating.

Edward Campbell purchased the Captain Leonard mansion on Main St. about 1821. He had moved from Rockingham in 1818. The mansion remained in the Campbell family for many years and their landscaping was memorable. The long flight of steps had arbors with brass lanterns that burned every evening and the grounds were decorated with horticultural art and included a conservatory built by Mr. Campbell. the bottom of the western slope had an artificial pond. It is said that Mrs. Campbell was a woman of queenly beauty.

Mr. Campbell had been vice president and cashier of the old Bank of Windsor and was the author of "The Heroine of Scutari and Other Poems" published by Dana and Company in NY and London in 1856. At the time of his death he was senior warden of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was one of the church founders.
