      J. A. COVINGTON, AGED FREMONT RESIDENT, DEAD
      Veteran of Civil War Who Came to Seattle Thirty-Four Years Ago Passes Away

      J. A. Covington died at the family home, 3629 Sunset place, Thursday morning, following an illness of a year. Mr. Covington, who had been a resident of the north end of Seattle for the last thirty-four years, was 76 years old. He was a member of Miller Post, G. A. R. and of the Masonic order.

      Mr. Covington was born in Wheeling, W. Va., seventy-seven years ago. At the outbreak of the civil war he enlisted in the Fortieth infantry of New York as a private. He was advanced to the rank of captain before the close of the war. He removed to Seattle thirty-four years ago and had been a resident of Fremont all that time. He had been employed as clerk at the county treasurer's office for the past fifteen years.

      He is survived by his wife and by five children--Mrs. E. C. Johnson, of Clear Lake; W. D. Covington, of Seattle; Mrs. Charles E. Nosler, of Oakland; Mrs. J. L. Kendall, of Huntsville, Ala., and Mrs. Ralph C. Byers, of Seattle.

      The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon from the Masonic temple at Fremont under the direction of the Miller Post, G. A. R., and the Doric lodge of Masons.
