      T Elwood was the son of Peter Collins and Sarah Hall. He married Sarah W Williams in Marshall Co, Iowa on 25 April 1855. They were the parents of 8 children: Alcaeus, Alice, Oella, Olive, William, Galen, Franklin, and Arthur. Elwood was a brother of Mahlon D. Collins.

      Dec 14, 1917 - Humboldt Republican - The death of one of the old Humboldt county settlers occurred last week when T.E. Collins of Livermore passed away on Tuesday morning.

      He has been living with his son Frank in Livermore and upon retiring Monday evening was in the best of health. However, the family realized that life might depart at any time as he was gradually getting weaker while having no special ailment altho he was eighty-six years of age.

      Mr. Collins is the man who surveyed the original town of Humboldt then known as Springvale.

      History of Kossuth and Humboldt Co, Iowa - page 753 - T Ellwood Collins settled where he now lives, one of the few old settlers who are still residents of the township. He was born in New York in 1830 and is the son of Peter and Sarah Hall Collins. The former was born in 1804 in Rhode Island and died in Humboldt county in 1876. The latter was a native of New York born in 1803 and died in Cedar Co, Iowa in 1870.

      T.E. Collins came to Humboldt county in 1856 since which time he has followed farming. Previous to that time he was engaged in mercantile trade.

      He was married in Marshall Co, Iowa in 1855 to Sarah Williams, who was born in Ohio in 1835. She was at that time a teacher. Her father, Dr D Williams, was born in Ohio in 1804 and died in Humboldt county in 1867. Her mother died in Ohio.

      Mr and Mrs Collins have had 8 children, four of whom are living - Oella, born in 1860 and now married to Charles Hewitt; Olive born in 1862 now married to James Browning, a native of Kentucky; Franklin Edwin born in 1871; and Arthur E born in 1875.

      page 637 - Sarah W Collins, was with her husband, T.E. Collins, one of the earliest settlers in this county, and is known to many of its residents. Kate A Collins, who many of the older settlers will remember, resides with her husband Rev. D. Collins is Corning, Adams Co, Iowa. Their marriage was among the earliest in the county. Mary E, the youngest daughter, died of heart disease at the house of Hiram Flemming near Lotts Creek, March 23, 1863 in her 21st year.

      page 754 - The first birth was that of Allie, the son of T Elwood Collins, born on the 3d of October 1856. It only lived a year and 7 months when it died and was buried in the cemetery on section 12. The was the first death in the township also.
