- Elinor (Burrill) Grainger Hall, 89 a lifelong resident of the Haverhill and Plaistow area, died November 18, 2011 at Penacook Place Nursing Home, Haverhill.
Born in Haverhill December 19, 1921, daughter of the late Horace and Gladys (Comeau) Burrill and sister of the late Wesley and Richard Burrill, Elinor was educated in the Haverhill School system. A member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1939, she attended McIntosh Business School.
During World War II she lived in Connecticut where she worked at Pratt & Whitney Corporation assembling airplane engines. In 1948 she returned to Haverhill and was employed by Bell Telephone Co. Then in 1954 she established a successful home toy party business, "Joy Parties" as they were called, which she operated from her home in the Riverside section of Haverhill until 1858.
From 1959 until 1978 she and her late first husband owned and operated a Hotel/Motel and Restaurant at Hampton Beach, Grainger's Surfside Chalet, (now known as LeBec Rouge). After selling the hotel, she became a licensed Real Estate Broker in the State of New Hampshire.
While living in Haverhill she was active as a Girl Scout leader, and member of the Eastern Star and was a very active member of the Riverside Memorial Church. After moving back to Plaistow, NH in 1963 she was an active member of the First Baptist Church.
Elinor enjoyed traveling, ballroom and square dancing and spending her winters at her home in Ft. Meyers Beach, Florida where she was a member of the Sweet Sues.
She was predeceased by two wonderful and caring husbands; Earle William Grainger to whom she was married from 1942 until his death in 1980 and Alvin C. Hall from 1990 until he died in 2009. Her survivors include a daughter, Joy and her husband John J. Merrill of Hampton, NH; a son, Rodney William Grainger and his wife Mary Beth of Port Charlotte, Florida and a sister in law, Elizabeth Burrill of Haverhill. Eight Grandchildren; Julie (Merrill) Fellows and her husband Douglas of Plaistow, NH, Jeffrey B. Merrill and his wife Kristen of Hampton, NH, James A. Merrill and his wife Barbara of Oceanside, NY, John J. Merrill Jr. and his wife Amy of Sarasota, Florida, Alex Grainger and his wife April of New Jersey, Matt Baker and his wife of Ohio and Adam & Brett Grainger of Pennsylvania, also ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call on November 27, 2011 at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, Plaistow, NH. Her funeral will take place on November 28, 2011 in the First Baptist Church, Plaistow followed by burial in Maplewood Cemetery, Plaistow.
